The Indian Super League (ISL) kicked off on October 12, 2014 and was recognised as India’s top-tier domestic league by FIFA and AFC in October 2019. The league is organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the participating clubs.
The league has 14 clubs that compete home-and-away in a single round-robin format. The bottom side at the end of the season is relegated to the I-League, and the I-League winners are promoted to the Indian Super League.
