AIFF conducts Safeguarding Workshop in collaboration with UNESCO

NEW DELHI: The All India Football Federation, in collaboration with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation), conducted a workshop on "Understanding Safeguarding in Sports" at the Football House in New Delhi on Friday, April 24, 2026.

The workshop was organised as part of the AIFF's ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive safeguarding framework for sports, and was delivered in collaboration with AIFF’s Safeguarding and Coach Education Department and UNESCO. A total of 20 licensed coaches, ranging from D to A License levels, participated in the session.

Representatives from UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia included Eunsong Kim, Chief and Programme Specialist (Social and Human Sciences), and Shraddha Chickerur, Programme Officer (Social and Human Sciences). They were joined by Priyanka Sarkar and Charul from Partnering4Change.

The workshop covered key areas related to safeguarding in football, including creating safe and supportive environments, understanding power dynamics, identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns, and adopting consent-based coaching practices.

AIFF’s Head of Coach Development Vivek Nagul and AIFF Technical Director Sabir Pasha welcomed the UNESCO delegation at the start of the workshop.

The initiative forms part of AIFF’s ongoing work to strengthen safeguarding practices and promote player welfare across all levels of football in India.
